Summers County Coach Bill Hughes among inductees during Hall of Fame ceremony
Congratulations to the Hughes family!
HINTON, W.Va. (WVVA) - Ahead of the match up on the gridiron where the Shady Spring Tigers battled against the Summers County Bobcats the annual Hall of Fame Ceremony took place on Friday, September 13.
Among this year’s inductees was longtime educator and legendary Coach Bill Hughes. Hughes was inducted alongside several other notably iconic and trailblazing people in the school’s history.
Hughes was a Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran who began coaching and teaching at Sandstone School in 1972. He coached basketball and started a football team at Sandstone Junior High.
Coach Hughes passed away earlier this year, accepting the honor on his behalf his sons, Keith & Mark Hughes in addition to his granddaughter, Sutton Hughes.
The aforementioned Mark Hughes is one of WVVA’s photographers (for 36+ years) as well as a Summers County High School & Fairmont State graduate.
