Coach Bill Hughes inducted into Summers County Bobcat Hall of Fame
Hughes was honored this past weekend by the Summers County Hall of Fame Committee
Hinton, W.Va. (WVVA) - Bill Hughes will be immortalized in Hinton for his dedication to local athletics.
He has been inducted into the Bobcat Hall of Fame. Several of Hughes’ former players and fellow coaches attended the ceremony this past weekend. It was held at Hughes’ home where he is currently fighting cancer.
Hughes is a Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran who began coaching and teaching at Sandstone School in 1972. He coached basketball and started a football team at Sandstone Junior High.
Hughes would go on to work with Bill Garten and John Curia at the high school level. Hughes served as Summers County Head Football Coach for 3 seasons following Curia’s departure in the mid-1980s.
He will be officially recognized alongside the other Hall of Fame inductees at the first Summers County High School football game this fall on Hall of Fame night.
