HINTON, W.Va. (WVVA) - Summers County Bobcat Hall of Famer coach Bill Hughes died Sunday morning. Hughes passed peacefully alongside his family after a hard fought fight with cancer.

Hughes was a Marine Corp Vietnam Veteran who began coaching and teaching at Sandstone School in 1972. He coached basketball and started a football team at sandstone junior high. Hughes worked with legendary Hinton High football coach, Bill Garten and later assisted John Curia. Hughes was named Summers County Head football coach following curia’s departure in the mid-eighties and went onto lead the Bobcats from 1985 to 1988

He will be officially recognized with the other Hall of Fame inductees at the first Summers County High School football game this fall on Hall of Fame night.
