BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - McDowell County Schools announced that they will accept written excuses for student absences in a certain time period.

The announcement was made in a Factbook post by the McDowell County Schools on Sept. 18, and is made because of the increased threats made to schools in the county recently.

McDowell County Schools says they will accept written parent excuses for any student absences that happened between Sept. 9 through Sept. 13. The policy only applies to this timeframe, according to McDowell County Schools.

The written excuses need to be turned in to the child’s school as soon as possible so they can be documented by the county.

This comes after two River View High School students are facing charges for making false active shooter threats, according to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.
