BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - Two students are facing charges after ‘numerous’ active shooter threats were made to River View High School, the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office said.
In a press release, the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office said on Sept. 12 and 13, they were made aware of active shooter threats made to the High School in Bradshaw. During the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said they determined the threats were not credible, and that two students fabricated the threats and posted them on social media.
Charges were filed on Sept. 17 against the students the Sheriff’s Office said. These charges include For Threats of Terrorist Acts to wit: Conveying False Information Concerning Terrorist Acts and Committing Terrorist Hoaxes, Felony Conspiracy, and Willful Disruption of a Government Process.
The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office said the names of the two students will not be released because they are juveniles, and they encourage parents to talk with their children about the dangers in spreading fear through social media.
