RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Virginia Democrats are lining up behind Vice President Kamala Harris to be the party’s nominee for president.

On Monday, the Virginia Delegation to the 2024 Democratic National Convention unanimously voted to endorse Harris after President Joe Biden opted not to seek re-election.

“At this critical time, our 119-person delegation joins President Biden in giving our unequivocal endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. Our delegation knows that Vice President Harris is the right choice and leader not only to unify our party but our country,” DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker said.

Several Virginia Democrats are also backing Harris:

According to an Associated Press survey, Harris has secured enough Democratic delegates to become the party’s nominee against Republican Donald Trump.

The Democratic National Convention will be Aug. 19-22 in Chicago, Illinois.
