Cabell and Mingo counties partner for election training
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Election season is right around the corner, and counties are working together to get ready for Nov. 5.
The West Virginia Secretary of State’s office held training for Mingo County clerks to learn about new technology already in use by Cabell County.
“We want to make sure that every vote is counted and is counted properly and they can put in all their trust in us to ensure that,” Mingo County Clerk Larry “Yogi” Croaff said.
The Secretary of State’s office says all of West Virginia’s counties use the express vote election system, but not all are using electronic poll books. Traditionally, voting jurisdictions have had paper poll books that contain a list of eligible voters in the district or precinct.
Mingo County will unveil the poll books this November.
Croaff says he is excited to teach more people and enjoyed working with his sister county.
“It is important that each county works together because each county has different problems, and we can work those issues out if they know what’s going on, and I know what’s going on ... we can come up with a better outcome,” Croaff said.
From the election warehouse, they moved to the courthouse for a cyber security table topics webinar in order to prepare for anything.
Cabell County Clerk Scott Caserta said he wants to be proactive and not reactive this election season.
“We will go above and beyond and do anything we can to make sure people have the right to vote and have the ability to vote and we will secure their vote,” Caserta said.
On Sept. 10, Mingo County will be back in Cabell for more election training.
