Bat tests positive for rabies in Raleigh County

A bat has tested positive for rabies in Raleigh County.

RALEIGH COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) - A bat has tested positive for rabies in Raleigh County.

According to the Beckley-Raleigh County Health Department, the bat was found in the Bolt area and submitted for testing.

The positive result war reported on August 6.

The health department advises the public to not feed, pet, or house stray or wild animals.

Residents should also make sure their pets have received their rabies vaccines.

The Health Department asks that if residents or their pets come into contact or locate an animal that is acting suspicious or has come into contact with a bat, they should seek medical care and notify officials immediately.
