WELCH, W.Va. (WVVA) - Members from the American Red Cross are delivering much needed supplies to McDowell County.

Members from the American Red Cross Central Appalachia Region made the stop at the Welch Armory on Friday. The group dropped off items such as cleaning supplies and shovels among other items.

The organization also has teams out in McDowell County who are delivering meals and doing damage assessments.

Those with the American Red Cross say the purpose of the assessments is to determine if the non-profit can provide financial assistance to those impacted.

“Right now we’re already planning for additional teams to be out here through next week. We’ll have case work and individualized discussions thereafter for a period of weeks. We know that this immediate need is going to go on for at least several weeks,” said Erica Mani,

The team sent to McDowell County consists of about 50 people and we’re told others are in nearby counties affected as well

Mani says the red cross has been working alongside The Salvation Army to deliver around 900 meals a day to people affected by the flooding.
