SAGINAW CO., Mich. (WNEM/Gray News) - A long-time shelter dog in Michigan has finally found his forever home.

Earlier this year, the Saginaw County Animal Care & Control shared Yankee’s story, a 7-year-old pit bull terrier mix, with hopes of finding him an adoptive family.

He became the oldest resident at the shelter, spending nearly 700 days with the animal care team.

The team held a St. Patrick’s Day adoption event over the weekend and Yankee made a special connection that led to him being adopted.

The animal care team shared a video of them lining the hallways as Yankee was leaving the building, getting ready to hop into his new family’s car.

“Yankee, we’ll miss you, but we know your best adventures are just beginning. Wishing you endless belly rubs, long naps, and all the treats you can dream of! Congratulations, Yankee! You did it!” the team shared in its message.
