(Gray News) – Frontier Airlines is offering free carry-ons and free checked bags for the summer.

The airline said depending on customer feedback, it may make the perk permanent.

In a news release Tuesday, the new offer appeared to take aim at Southwest Airlines, which recently announced it is ending its longtime free checked bag policy.

“Some airlines are walking away from what travelers love, but we’re running towards it,” Barry Biffle, CEO of Frontier Airlines, said in a statement. “Think of this as the ultimate ‘divorce your old airline’ deal. If travelers show us the love, we’ll make these perks permanent.”

The free bag policy is part of Frontier’s Economy Bundle, which includes a free carry-on, free seat selection and free flight changes.

For all bookings for nonstop travel starting March 18 through Aug. 18, Frontier flyers will receive the Economy Bundle for free. The Economy Bundle must be selected at the time of flight purchase.

Flyers can also get a free checked bag for flights departing May 28 through Aug. 18, using promo code “FREEBAG.”

But if you want these deals, you’ll need to hurry. Flights must be booked between now and March 24.

“At the end of the day, travelers just want to be valued,” said Biffle. “We’re bringing back the things people love about flying - free bags, free seat selection, and flexibility - without the extra fees. No games, just great value.”
