Plane collides with vehicle while attempting takeoff; 2 hospitalized

PALMETTO, Fla. (WWSB/Gray News) - Florida authorities say a small plane collided with a vehicle as it was trying to take off at an area airport.

According to Palmetto police, a wind gust caused a plane to go off course and come back down before it struck a truck at Airport Manatee on Tuesday.

The plane involved was an Aeronca Champion carrying a pilot and passenger. Authorities said they were taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

First responders did not immediately say if anyone in the truck was hurt.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it has been notified about the crash.
