BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - On this Sunday’s edition of In Focus we sit down with local actors to discuss presenting Shakespeare to Appalachian audiences and the upcoming performance of “As You Like it”.

We speak with Karen Harvey, who directs and assumes multiple roles in the play. We are also joined by Dr. Gabriel Rieger who is the Executive Director of the Appalachian Shakespeare project, a professor at Concord University and an actor in the performance in the role of Mr. Touchstone. Also on the In Focus couches this week is Margaret Rieger who plays a go-go dancer.

This performance of “As You Like It” takes on a Baz Luhrmann-esque quality as the 400 year old play is set in the swinging 60s while still maintaining the original script. The cast is comprised of mods and hippies as well as Elvis, Austin Powers and more. This colorful showing of a Shakespeare classic will have several outdoor showings from mid to late July. Admission is free and guests are encouraged to bring refreshments and a picnic lunch. The performance will roughly last 2 hours.

Show Schedule:

Chuck Mathena Center: July 18

Pipestem Amphitheater: July 19-21

Concord University: July 26-27
