BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - On this Sunday’s In Focus we are highlighting the powerful song “Johnny” by Derian Blane. The music video is a part of the “We Need to Talk” series by the RiffRaff Arts Collective.

The song and video deal with a heavy topic that may be disturbing to some viewers. Viewer discretion is advised.

In addition to the music video, we show excerpts of a behind the scene interview with Blake. We also sit down with Executive Director for the RiffRaff Arts Collective, Lori McKinney, and Regional Youth Services Coordinator for FMRS health systems, Kristal Straub.

We speak about how the video was shot while keeping the mental health of all of the involved in mind. The services offered by FMRS are also highlighted for those that may need help dealing with issues like the one highlighted in Blake’s video.

The “We Need to Talk” series is “is a movement using music videos and docushorts to build bridges and catalyze community healing by creating sweeping, cinematic music videos featuring original music by artists within our community that have written songs about issues they are passionate about, or ways they see the world that they wish the community could open their hearts to. We are using these videos to stoke community dialogue, build relationships, and cultivate a culture of listening,”.
