WVVA HOMETOWN HERO: Mikayla Poore Enriches Panther
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - A 25-year-old Concord University graduate maintains a party girl reputation in the western McDowell County community of Panther. But it’s more than what pops into the minds of most when they think of the label “party girl”.
Mikayla Poore has poured her heart, soul, energy, and even personal resources to plan and execute community parties that can bring in hundreds of locals.
The 4 separate annual parties focus on bringing people together in family-friendly settings. Poore, a lifelong resident of Panther, says she wants to add to what’s going on in her hometown, “We’re not a very well-known area and we don’t have a lot that happens here. So doin’ these events and everything I just wanted to bring a positive impact and shed some light on the beautiful resources that we have and the things that can...that can happen here,” Poore said.
Her husband of 3 years, Jaxson, says witnessing all the work she and her family put into parties for every season is truly inspiring. There’s a summer party called panther community day.
There’s a Halloween Bash, Easter Extravaganza and Christmas for the Kids. He says he nominated his wife to add some balance to all the negativity that fills news feeds, “Even if there is a lot od darkness goin’ on, there’s still a lot of light in this world and it show’s there’s still a lot of good people out there doin’ good things,” said Mr. Poore.
Mrs. Poore shared this reaction when asked about being nominated for WVVA Hometown Hero, “Just thinkin’ about how they see me...like, I don’t really always see the difference that I’m tryin’ to make you know? and just hearing it come from someone else, the positive impact that I’m having, it, it really warms my heart,” said Mrs. Poore.
