HINTON, W.Va. (WVVA) -Pat Jordan is a Hinton resident that has went above and beyond to serve his community.

Jordan was nominated for WVVA Hometown Hero by his granddaughter, who says her papaw has always been involved in the City of Hinton.

“I nominated him because he has done a great job at instilling the importance of community service and giving back to your community. Um, not only in myself, but I think in his two sons and all of his grandchildren as well,” said Syndey Tabit, Pat Jordan’s Granddaughter.

Tabit says with the passion Jordan has shown to the City of Hinton, although he doesn’t want to be recognized he deserves it.

“When he retired from city council, we felt like he had done so much, and he is very humble and doesn’t like to be recognized for it, but we just felt like he should be,” said Tabit.

Pat Jordan says how proud he is of his family and nominator granddaughter for supporting him and pushing him throughout the years.

“It makes me feel really good. Proud of all of them, but that one, the that wrote that [nomination], when she turned seven and she found out I was running for city council, she deemed herself my campaign manager, and she stuck with me right on through to the last one,” said Pat Jordan, WVVA Hometown Hero.

After being on Hinton City Council for 33 years, he says why.

“My dad had a saying, my dad had a lot of sayings, but he used to say, ‘don’t blink, you’ll miss it.’ Well, I must’ve blinked a lot because those 33 years flew right by, but I enjoyed it. It gave me an opportunity to help people in the community and we’ve got a nice little town here. Again, I enjoyed helping the people when, when someone calls you and says my basement’s flooding, you know, that means something to them,” said Jordan.

From sitting on multiple boards such as the Board of Directors for the Summers County Hospital and more to helping get little league baseball back on their feet, Jordan says those years with baseball were his favorite.

“I still to this day enjoy going, sitting up on the hill and watching them play. But that’s the thing in 33 years that means the most to me, and it wasn’t just me, it was a bunch of people. I had a lady give me a 500 check and made me promise not to tell who it came from. She’s passed away and I’ll not tell, but it was things like that. Makes you feel good about your town,” continued Jordan.

When asked about why he had been involved and stayed in Hinton the majority of his life he says this.

“I tell people, I’ve told this administration, we’re the best kept secret in West Virginia. We’ve got three rivers, a lake, two golf courses, and two state parks. It’s just a great place to live,” said Jordan.

It is his love and passion for the City of Hinton that makes Pat Jordan a WVVA Hometown Hero.
