BSU and PCH host Junior Nursing Academy
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - Bluefield State nursing program is holding a 3-day academy for rising high school freshmen looking to pursue medicine.
With a nursing shortage across the country, the university is hoping to get ahead of the curve with this junior nursing academy.
Now in its sixth year, Sandy Wynn, program coordinator, tells us she is thrilled with the success so far.
“This gives a chance for kids to go further away to see a camp or something like this. To be somewhere local, to see what goes on, and to hopefully inspire them to be a nurse,” said Wynn.
She notes that a student from the first camp is now a registered nurse at WVU Medicine- Princeton Community Hospital.
Nursing students that attend BSU have the opportunity to have a portion of their tuition paid for if they enter an employment contract with PCH.
