WVU Medicine PCH gets national recognition
PRINCETON, W.Va. (WVVA) -WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital received the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ best hospitals procedures and conditions ratings.
These ratings are based on objective quality measures and designed to assist patients and their health care providers in making informed decisions about where to receive care.
Earning recognition for their knee replacement procedures and treatment for both COPD and heart failure, Karen Bowling, President CEO of WVU Medicine PCH, tell us what an honor this recognition is.
“This acknowledgment is really a great way for our community to know that they can get this outstanding care close to home. This report is by an external agency, and we don’t submit any kind of data. They basically look at all the external data and then they validate that we’re the top hospital,” said Bowling.
Of nearly five thousand hospitals evaluated by U.S. News those earning the “Best” designation title excelled in factors like clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.
Bowling continues with the impact this distinction has on the community around the hospital. She tells us this helps ensure those who are older or dealing with chronic illness feel they are receiving the best care.
“On those two conditions, it is important that if you’re hospitalized for those conditions that you receive this top-notch quality health care because we want to keep you, discharge you, and get you going home and functional and doing as much as you can for as long as you can, even though you may have a chronic condition,” said Bowling.
The best hospitals specialty rankings measure patient outcomes using data from millions of records for Medicare and Medicaid services.
